50 Jahre nach dem Aufbruch zu einem neuen Lebensraum – dem Mars – wird der Großteil der kulturellen Produkte von künstlicher Intelligenz erschaffen und die Menschen sind zufrieden damit, nur noch passive Konsumenten zu sein. Doch in dieser Welt leben zwei Mädchen, denen das nicht reicht: Carole lebt in der Metropole Alba City und arbeitet als Teilzeitkraft, während sie versucht, eine Musikerin zu werden. Sie hatte schon immer das Gefühl, ihr fehle etwas. Tuesday ist die Tochter einer wohlhabenden Familie und lebt in der Kleinstadt Herschel City. Auch sie träumt davon, Musikerin zu werden, jedoch fühlt sie sich von niemandem verstanden und empfindet sich als die einsamste Person des ganzen Planeten.

Die beiden treffen zufälligerweise aufeinander. Sie wollen singen, sie wollen Musik machen. Zusammen, so glauben sie, haben sie womöglich eine Chance und auch wenn sie nur einen kleinen Stein ins Rollen bringen, lösen sie so auf lange Sicht doch eine gewaltige Lawine aus ...
